Alone Australia Season 2: TV release date and where to watch

Published On

March 22, 2024

The success of the American survivalist series Alone on SBS prompted the network to green-light the production of its Australian counterpart, Alone Australia, which brought the network record-breaking ratings.

In the first season, filming took place around a remote lake in Tasmania’s West Coast with 10 contestants making use of their survival skills to prevail over the harsh conditions of the Tasmanian wilderness.

Now returning for new episodes, Alone Australia Season 2 will see a new group of survivalists braving the wild terrain and extreme weather of New Zealand’s South Island (Aotearoa’s Te Waipounamu). The stakes are high, of course, as whoever stays the longest wins the show’s $250,000 prize.

The new Alone Australia 2024 season will be available to watch on SBS, then on SBS On Demand for catch-up streaming. Haven’t seen the first season?

No worries, SBS On Demand still streams Alone Australia episodes from season 1.

Based on the self-documented survival series of the same name, SBS’ hit show follows 10 contestants stranded in the middle of nowhere. The challenge is to survive hunger, the wild’s vicious conditions, and worst of all – isolation – for as long as they can with a limited amount of survival equipment.

The survivalists are also isolated from each other. Each one has their own unique set of skills combined with experience, stamina and strength, all crucial for embarking on a solo survival journey.

Undergoing intense physical and mental challenges while enduring isolation and shortage of essential supplies, the contestants can “tap out” or leave the show at any time. The first season saw Alone Australia contestants enduring Tasmania’s remote wilderness in the middle of winter.

In season 2, a new group of 10 contestants will be dropped in the wilds of New Zealand’s South Island, which is expected to have more extreme weather conditions.

The location isn’t the only thing that’s changing in the new season. This time, contestants are allowed to hunt with a bow and arrows, but native wildlife is still off-limits.
