Set in 1980s New York, Eric follows Vincent (Cumberbatch), a successful puppeteer and the famous creator of the hit children’s show Good Day Sunshine. His world is turned upside down when his nine-year-old son, Edgar, disappears on his way to school.

Struggling to cope with loss and guilt, he turns to his son’s drawings for clues with the image of a blue monster puppet, Eric, catching his attention the most. While his wife Cassie (Gaby Hoffmann) and the leading detective Michael Ledroit (McKinley Belcher III) scramble to search for answers, Vincent is keen to create and bring Eric into television, believing it would bring his son home.

As his mental state gets alarmingly volatile and behaviour destructive, Vincent ends up alienating everyone around him, except for the blue monster puppet Eric, who becomes his emblem of hope and constant companion. But is Eric the one that will bring Edgar back or is he a product of Vincent’s spiralling delusions?

The Eric TV show is created by BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan (The Hour, The Iron Lady) and directed by Lucy Forbes.
