Based on ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ book, the new series centres on Russian aristocrat Count Alexander Rostov (McGregor). After being arrested and charged as a social parasite before a Bolshevik tribunal, the Count is placed under house arrest for life in a Moscow hotel.

The post-Revolutionary government’s hostility towards the aristocracy stripped the Count of his title and wealth, and while he is spared a death sentence, he is forced to spend the rest of his life in a hotel attic room.  Threatened to face death should he set foot outside the confines of his “prison”, the Count accepts his fate of having to suffer endless days stuck in the hotel.

Resolved to not be controlled by his reduced circumstances, the Count makes use of his time to develop friendships, romance, and explore the power of human connection in ways he didn’t know possible.

The upcoming adaptation is created by Ben Vanstone for television, which he also co-wrote with Nessah Muthy. The book’s author, Amor Towles, also serves as an executive producer alongside Vanstone, McGregor, Tom Harper, Xavier Marchand, and Sam Miller.
