Compare the Best Mobile Postpaid Plans in Australia

Postpaid mobile

Postpaid plans have always been the standard when it comes to getting a mobile service. There’s commitment involved, yes, but you save more in the long run with unlimited calls and texts plus greater data allowances. On the other hand, going prepaid before meant higher call and text costs. A lot has happened since then. The evolution of mobile plans has notably brought about changes that make prepaid plans almost as valuable as postpaid. Almost.

Why Choose a Postpaid Mobile Plan

Clearly, there are still valuable features that only postpaid mobile plans offer. Telco providers make sure customers see that difference because, more often than not, it’s how mobile users easily differentiate one from the other in terms of inclusions. Telstra, for instance, include several exciting perks on all their postpaid plans, including streaming live sports data-free. This is also available in some prepaid plans, but take note of the determiner ‘some’. In this case, we can all agree that ‘all’ is better than ‘some’. So, there’s your difference – a crucial factor when making an informed decision of which mobile plan to get.

These recent years have also seen postpaid plans become much more flexible. It used to be that getting one meant a lengthy commitment. Not anymore. Many of Australia’s top mobile providers offer no lock-in contract postpaid plans, making them less daunting. The part where you’ll be billed monthly for your usage still remains, of course, but there’s peace of mind knowing that you have the option to leave without penalties whenever it suits your needs. Prepaid mobile plans may have improved value-wise but so does postpaid in terms of flexibility. Even better, the prices of postpaid plans have dropped in recent years as well.

The Best Australian Mobile Postpaid Plans

Southern Phone is another affordable postpaid option, while Telstra sweeps customers off their feet with huge data allowances, unlimited calls that include international destinations and so much more. • Southern Phone
  • Moose Mobile
  • Telstra
  • Woolworths

Southern Phone Mobile

Regional telco provider Southern Phone mobile offers postpaid plans that are backed by one of Australia’s largest networks: Optus. These plans are basically differentiated by their contract terms. Overall, it’s better to have a variety of options to make sure you get the right plan.

All plans that Southern Phone now offers are on a month-to-month term and further simplified their offering by only having four plans: Small with 2.5GB at $12.99/month, Medium with 10GB at $25/month, Large with 30GB at $35/month, and Extra Large with 60GB at only $45/month.

Southern Phone’s new SIM-only plans now include international call credits on select plans. This starts with the Medium plans offering $50 credit all the way to X Large plan with up to $500 call credits. And for a limited time, new customers also save more when they sign up for the Small 2.5GB and Large 30GB plans with $2.99/month and $5/month off, respectively. What’s more, these discounts remain for as long as you stay in either of these plans.

Moose Mobile

Another mobile provider that offers cheap postpaid plans is Moose Mobile. The telco delivers several full Optus 4G SIM-only plans categorised by their contract terms. The no lock-in contract deals are the obvious choice if it’s flexibility you’re after. For $8.80/month, you get 300 minutes of national calls, unlimited texts, and 1GB data with Moose 8.80. It’s a great plan for kids and maybe even adults who don’t need much. The rest of the plans all include unlimited calls — Moose 15.80 with 6GB, Moose 23.80 with 20GB, Moose 29.80 with 35GB, Moose 35.80 with 50GB, and Moose 46.80 with 60GB.

Need bigger data? Moose Mobile’s 12-month plans give you more of that if you don’t mind locking it in for a year. The cheapest Moose 13 plan already includes unlimited calls and 2GB data. Then there’s Moose 15 with 6GB, Moose 22 with 20GB, Moose 29 with 40GB, Moose 34 with 50GB, and the biggest Moose 44 with 70GB.

Telstra Mobile

Australia’s biggest mobile network may not be the cheapest around, but they feature mobile plan essentials and several perks exclusive to Telstra mobile subscribers that can save you money in the long run. Their SIM only plans are also becoming upfront this year, which means customers will be automatically billed each month, scrapping the need for monthly bills. While some features are no longer available, like free access to Telstra Air and calls and texts to premium numbers, they’ve also added data sharing, 30 minutes of international calls to selected destinations, and unlimited SMS to all overseas numbers into the mix.

Despite these changes, there are no changes to the actual plans being offered, price and data-wise. All four SIM only plans still include unlimited national calls and texts with the lowest price tier $55 plan including 40GB data. From there, you’ll find your extra $10 goes a long way — for only $65, you easily score 80GB total data, a whopping increase from the starter 40GB allowance. Another $20 more and you get 120GB data. The top-end plan, meanwhile, offers 180GB for $115/month. These plans (except the cheapest $55) include 5G network access, provided you’re in a 5G coverage area and your phone is 5G capable.

Then there are Telstra’s exclusive perks to mobile customers, which include data-free Apple Music. Considering all these, $55 per month would seem like money spent wisely. Especially if you’re big on music and sports streaming, you need all the other inclusions mentioned in your day to day.

Telstra Mobile 2021 Offers

New customers can save big with Telstra Mobile. Need lots of data for your mobile? Sign up for Telstra’s most generous Extra Large plan packed with 180GB now at only $65 per month – that’s $50/month credit for 12 months!

Woolworths Mobile

Woolworths was already a household name before it ventured into the mobile business. Obtaining Telstra’s mobile network certainly helped the company in their entrance to the already crowded niche of mobile. Starting out with prepaid plans, Woolworths’ first postpaid plans were ones that include a new handset.

Today, they offer postpaid phone plans from $25/month up to $45/month with data allowances ranging from 18GB to 55GB. There’ll be additional fees to cover the handset. The devices on offer include the latest from Samsung and Oppo.

For customers who don’t need a new handset, Woolworths also offers no contract SIM-only deals with the same data allowances and plan fees.

Woolworths Mobile 2021 Offers

All of Woolworths’ plans include a 200GB data banking. Select plans also include unlimited standard international calls & text to 22 selected countries. And with Woolworths Rewards, you can even enjoy more savings – get 10% off your grocery shop for eligible purchases of $500 in a single transaction, saving you up to $50 a month!
