What is Lively vs Baldoni: The Hollywood Feud about?
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s pairing in the 2024 movie It Ends with Us did not end on a good note, to say the least. What followed was a string of lawsuits—including Lively’s sexual harassment allegations and claims of a smear campaign allegedly orchestrated by Baldoni and his PR team.
In response, Baldoni filed defamation and countersuits, including a $250 million libel suit against The New York Times and later a $400 million countersuit targeting Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others. According to the It Ends with Us actor, who also directed the film, it was Lively and her team who instigated the smear campaign to tarnish his reputation and seize creative control.
The upcoming special examines the feud, first delving into Baldoni’s case: a filmmaker defending himself against allegations of sexual misconduct. Co-starring with Lively in the film, the actor also directed the movie—an integral role he claims was undermined when Lively increasingly asserted herself as a creative force. These creative differences between the actress and the director led to a complicated and strained relationship.
The second half of the TV special delves into Lively’s case: a high-profile actress, largely resisting a massive online smear campaign designed to destroy her name. Her claims of sexual harassment and hostile workplace are her way of taking the stand for women in the industry.
Friends and former colleagues of both parties will be interviewed in the special, along with TikTok creator Markos Bitsakakis, known for his painstaking investigation of the feud. Entertainment reporter Kjersti Flaa—whose past interview with Lively, and the awkward exchange it captured, helped spark the online backlash against the actress—will also appear in the documentary.
