A female Jack Russell is found alone and frightened with a badly broken leg on a traveller site in Dagenham, and the rescuers takes her in for treatment, but even their timely intervention may not be enough to restore her ability to walk. A former puppy farm resident is given a chance to train as a sheepdog in Yorkshire, and Inspector Anthony Pulfer sends an emaciated German shepherd off for specialist treatment. Alan visits Socks, an old acquaintance whose persistent flea problem has finally become a thing of the past.

An underweight and heavily pregnant dog is brought in to the hospital for an emergency procedure to deliver her pups, and due to the animal's poor condition, Inspector Annie Simmonds is called in to investigate. Inspector Anthony Jenkins and vet Becky McAlpine tend to a bull mastiff in Merseyside with an unusual skin condition, while in Nuneaton, Herchy Boal meets a heartbroken owner who must give up her two beloved terriers following a marriage breakdown. Plus, Anthony Pulfer catches up with Gucci, the severely neglected American bulldog that was reduced to eating her own faeces when inspectors found her last year. Anthony sets out to discover whether Gucci is thriving in her new home.

The animal welfare series continues as Alan focuses on four very different dogs that underwent incredible transformations. Inspector Nick Wheelhouse is called in deal with three adult mastiffs and nine puppies in north London that are all drastically underweight. In Essex, the rescuers provide the elderly owner of Blue, an overweight whippet, with a new diet and exercise regime that will help him shed the excess pounds. The also catches up with Mavis, one of nine poodles abandoned by the side of the road in Winchester. When they were found, their wet, matted coats accounted for more than 40 per cent of their body weight, but now Mavis regularly goes for grooming and pampering treatments with her owner Sally. Finally, Anthony Pulfer checks in on Prince, the shar pei who was found with barely any fur.

The trail leads him to Parliament Square, where it is believed that dogs like the missing ones are being used to scam passers-by out of cash. Meanwhile, Inspector Anthony Joynes visits a property where seven underweight American bulldog pups are struggling to get enough nutrition from their exhausted mum.

In Scunthorpe, an anxious inspector offers a new lease of life to two Labradors that have been kept in training cages by their overwhelmed owner, and a puppy at the Southridge Animal Centre finds a new home.
