After learning the news of their mother’s death, estranged sisters Becca (Jones) and Rosaline (Best) have to fly out to the Isle of Man to retrieve her body. Already burdened with grief and guilt, they’re shocked to discover about their mother, Mary, having lived a double life on the island.

Leaving their father Richard at their Manchester home, Mary created a new world for herself – Maryland. The sisters must also confront their mother’s mysterious death, aside from having to deal with the pain of losing a parent. As they stay on the island to understand why things happened the way they did, they encounter firsthand the repercussions of their mother’s deception.

Co-starring in the series, Suranne Jones also co-created Maryland with Anne-Marie O’Connor. All episodes are directed by Susan Tully.
