Sandra Oh, best known for her award-winning performances in Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve, teams up with comedic star Awkwafina in the hysterical comedy film Quiz Lady. It follows sisters Anne (Awkwafina) and Jenny (Oh) as they embark on a chaotic journey to pay off their mother’s gambling debts. While they have no prospects whatsoever to help them acquire a hefty sum of cash, Jenny has her very own Eureka moment when she discovers her sister’s exceptional knowledge can turn her into a bona fide gameshow champion.

Anne, played by Awkwafina is a brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow obsessed young woman who reunites with her train-wreck of a sister Jenny, played by Sandra Oh. The estranged sisters are in a major pickle – their mom ran away and they have no idea where she is. But while she did, her gambling debts remains behind. To make things worse, the people to whom their mother owes money from kidnap Anne’s beloved dog.
When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they must find other ways to get money fast. Watching a game show together, Jenny witnesses her sister’s awesome skill set in answering all questions. Suddenly, she realises that the only way to cover their mother’s gambling debts is turning Anne into a game show champion she was always meant to be. But to get into the quiz show, they must cross country trek together and encounter all kinds of shenanigans.
Oscar winner Jessica Yu directed the film from a script written by Jen D’Angelo. Originally developed at Netflix, the rights for the movie was later acquired by 20th Century Studios, hence, making its release on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in other territories.
