Reflecting the sign of the times, how far does one go to achieve fame on the internet? For Danni Sanders, an ambitious young woman who dreams of becoming famous online, as far as she could. Going on an imaginary trip to Paris to hype up her social media presence, she soon learns that online notoriety has a terrible price to pay. And when she finally gets what she wants by pretending to be a survivor of a deadly attack, she realises that lies are amongst the quickest things in the world to backfire.

Danni Sanders is an aspiring writer who works as a photo editor at an online magazine. Struggling to be seen and having a hard time making friends, she lies about going to Paris to impress her social media influencer co-worker, Colin. Posting edited photos, she finally gets the attention she’s wanted, garnering new Instagram followers, including Colin.

When a terrifying incident takes place in Paris, everyone she knows mistakenly believes she has just survived a terrorist attack. She then finds followers and fame pretending to be a survivor. Being given a new life and all the attention she’s wanted, she ditches her initial plan to come clean, embracing her new-found stardom and the lies that come with it.

Not Okay is directed by Quinn Shephard (Blame) and stars Zoey Deutch (Everybody Wants Some!!) and Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf). Garnering positive reviews from critics and viewers alike, the film’s themes are timely and relevant, depicting the realities of online life and how chasing online notoriety comes with a terrible price. On Rotten Tomatoes, Not Okay garnered a 75% approval rating.

Not Okay is currently streaming on demand via Disney Plus. There are no free trials available so new customers can choose between the monthly and the yearly plan, priced at $13.99 and $139.99, respectively. In addition to Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Disney, and National Geographic content, Disney Plus offers the Star channel more content that’s catered to adult audiences. Being a Disney Plus exclusive, the movie won’t be available on free-to-air.
