Every episode of Hope Street follows a self-contained crime story, all the while exploring the triumphs and challenges of the local authorities. As the police officers investigate crimes in the town, the series also focuses on how every case impacts Port Devine’s residents.

In Hope Street Season 1, DC Leila Hussain’s transfer to the Northern Irish seaside town generates so many questions and suspicions amongst local residents. Nobody knows the reason behind her sudden arrival save for Inspector Finn O’Hare.

While the people wonder about her past life in England and a damaging secret she may be harbouring, her reason for being there turns out to be a matter of life-and-death.

In season 2, DC Al Quinn (Stephen Hagan), Finn’s former colleague, arrives in town as part of an undercover operation. Replacing DC Leila following her departure, he attempts to fill her shoes. But when someone he loves got in trouble, Detective Al crosses a line to protect her, compromising his career.

After the events of season 2, the third season introduces Port Devine’s new detective, the mysterious Jo Lipton, played by Karen Hassan. While her arrival rouses questions and suspicions, this town on the Northern Ireland coast continues to navigate a life entangled in crimes and mysteries, all while examining the personal and professional struggles of the Port Devine police department.

Featuring different central characters every season, Hope Street also revolves around its constant figures in the series, including Inspector Finn O’Hare (Ciarán McMenamin), Sergeant Marlene Pettigrew (Kerri Quinn), Concepta O’Hare (Bríd Brennan), and Barry Pettigrew (Des McAleer).

Creator Paul Marquess, who’s from Belfast, Northern Ireland, aspires to create a long-running local drama headlined by local talent.
