Where to watch Dune in Australia: Is it streaming anywhere?

Dune is streaming in Australia; find out where it’s currently available to watch at home.

It’s always a great time to revisit Denis Villeneuve’s highly lauded film, Dune: Part One, whether you’re new in the world of Dune’s political and magical landscapes or you just watched the 2024 sequel Dune 2.

If it’s the latter, of course you would love to be reminded of everything that happened before leading up to all those riveting moments in Part Two.

Cinematography and directing aside, Dune shines in its ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and Zendaya. Here’s how you can watch it online in Australia:

Despite being released three years years ago on 2 December 2021, the first chapter of the revived Dune franchise is currently only available on Stan for streaming on demand. The local streamer also offers the first Dune movie (1984) directed by David Lynch.

Is Dune streaming anywhere else? It is worth noting that Dune: Part One did premiere on BINGE and Foxtel last September 2022 for the duration of the providers’ streaming rights.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to watch Dune online free with Stan removing its free trial. If you don’t want to add any more subscriptions, you can just rent or buy Dune on rental platforms, such as Apple TV, Prime Video Store, Microsoft Store, Fetch, and Google TV.

Check out the Dune trailer below.

Released in 2021, the first Dune movie follows the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) to defeat fear and fulfill his destiny by traversing the most dangerous planet in the universe, Arrakis.

Paul is the ducal heir of House Atreides, currently led by his father Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac). While he’s troubled by his visions of the future, he’s a gifted young man born into a destiny he has yet to understand. To ensure the future of their people, their house accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis.

While vicious in its nature, the planet is the only source of “the spice”, a valuable substance that heightens one’s vitality and awareness. Unbeknownst to them, political foes are just waiting to strike.

As control of Arrakis guarantees higher power, malevolent forces will stop at nothing to retake the planet and claim its most precious resources. After House Atreides is betrayed, Paul must conquer his fear and embrace his destiny, ultimately finding himself with the Fremen, Arrakis’ mysterious natives.

2021’s Dune is the second adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel following David Lynch’s 1984 version. It was one of the best films of 2021, praised for its remarkable science fiction themes, visuals, and performances. It received 10 nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Dune 2 ended with the future of its characters unclear, so somewhat of a cliffhanger — leading us to ask: when is Dune 3 coming? Unfortunately, there’s no release date for Dune: Part Three just yet.

While Warner Bros stated that the final Dune movie will be released on 18 December 2026, the sci-fi epic trilogy’s director, Denis Villeneuve, hasn’t confirmed about Dune 3’s exact premiere.

If you enjoy watching epic sci-fi features like Dune, there’s plenty of similar movies across streaming. Top choices include the Star Wars franchise, Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ad Astra, Arrival, John Carter, Prometheus, and many more.
