A Murder at the End of the World: Release date and how to watch in Australia

After the success of the Netflix original series, The OA, creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij are back with another of what we can only expect as a grand TV spectacle in A Murder at the End of the World. Previously titled Retreat, the limited series follows Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named Darby Hart.

Together with eight other guests, she’s offered a one-of-a-kind getaway sponsored by a reclusive billionaire. But what was supposed to be a relaxing retreat turns instantly awry when one of the guests is found dead.

Scheduled to premiere in August, here’s everything you need to know about the new murder mystery series.

The new series is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus. Fortunately, the service offers an extensive catalogue of movies and TV shows, so it’s definitely worth signing up for.

Since the series is made for FX, a subsidiary of Disney, it’s unlikely for the show to be available on other streaming services at the moment.

The new series was originally slated to premiere on Disney Plus on Tuesday, 29 August. It was, however, pushed back from its original premiere date in Australia due to the writer / actor strikes in the USA.

After the delay, it’s been confirmed that A Murder at the End of the World is set to debut with two episodes on 14 November 2023. Consisting of seven episodes, every remaining new episode will roll out weekly on streaming TV. The show will be on Star Plus in Latin America and Disney Plus in other territories at a later date.

In this upcoming series from the creators of The OA, Emma Corrin (The Crown) plays Darby Hart, an amateur detective invited to participate in a retreat arranged by Andy, a reclusive billionaire played by Clive Owen. Accepting the invitation, she finds herself at a remote and dazzling location. However, it didn’t take long before things took a darker turn – there’s been a death under mysterious circumstances.

Despite her lack of experience, Darby utilises her skills alongside her instinct to prove someone murdered the victim. Conducting an investigation when all odds are against her, she must also defeat a mountain of competing interests to catch the culprit before the killer takes another life.

FX’s new mystery thriller can be akin to the sleuthing escapades of well-known fictional detectives like Hercule Poirot or Benoit Blanc, but this time FX’s new series features a Gen Z protagonist doing all the sleuthing with the help of her exceptional hacking skills.

Marling and Batmanglij executive produced the series with Andrea Sperling, Melanie Marnich, and Nicki Paluga. Marling also stars in the series playing a character named Lee.
