Eddie Murphy is Chris Carver in the new Christmas movie Candy Cane Lane. Desperate to win an annual contest as the neighbourhood’s best decorated house for Christmas, he unwittingly makes a deal with a vicious elf that’s obviously up to no good.

Not only will she ruin everyone’s Christmas, Chris will also turn into a plastic doll if he doesn’t come up with a plan to reverse the mayhem; and no offence to plastic dolls, that’s not good.

Making its streaming premiere in December, here’s how you can watch the new family comedy in Australia.

What’s in this Guide?

The new film premieres on Amazon Prime Video. An Amazon Original Movie, it’s unlikely for the film to become available somewhere else as of this writing.

If you’re new to Amazon Prime, you can catch the film’s premiere on the service for free with a 30-day trial.

Just in time for the holiday season, you can watch the movie starting Friday, 1 December 2023.

The Christmas movie is part of Eddie Murphy’s three-film first-look deal with Amazon Studios, which came after Coming 2 America became the most-watched movie on the service during its premiere in March 2021.

To watch Eddie Murphy’s new film, you’ll need to sign up to Prime Video. Fortunately, Prime still offers a 30-day free trial, the longest trial available in Australia alongside Stan.

What’s more, it is a part of the larger Prime membership that includes shopping, free delivery options, music, reading, and many more benefits you’ll not find on other services.

Amazon Prime is the home of many original series and movies, including trending titles like Reacher, The Boys, Rings of Power, Good Omens, and many others.

In the movies department, they have originals like Ben Affleck’s Air, Being the Ricardos, Cassandro, Totally Killer, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, Samaritan, Thirteen Lives, and lots more.

Chris Carver (Murphy) has one wish this Christmas – to win his neighbourhood’s annual Christmas decoration contest. Okay, he probably has some other wishes, but this one tops the list.

With everyone going all out in their decorations, it’s suffice to say that the competition is stiff. To increase his chances of winning, Chris decides to enlist the help of an elf to spice things up with magic.

It backfires when it’s revealed that the elf has evil plans of her own, and of those plans none includes making others happy. Not only does she crave destruction, she also turns her victims into plastic dolls.

But the Carvers are not having it. With a little bit of brainstorming and making sure they don’t split up (because splitting up means dying in horror movies), Evil Elf will soon know that she messed with the wrong family.

The film is directed by Reginald Hudlin (House Party). Murphy also serves as producer alongside Charisse M. Hewitt, Karen Lunder, and Brian Grazer.
