What is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom about?

Years after being accepted as the true ruler of Atlantis, Arthur embarks on a new chapter of his life, not only as a king but also as a family man. However, the return of an unyielding villain, Black Manta, is bound to make life on Atlantis dangerously complicated.

While Arthur seemingly defeated his vengeful nemesis in the first film, we now know it’s not the case, and he’s come back stronger than ever. His return also brings with him the power of the Black Trident, which can awaken an ancient force capable of destroying not only Atlantis, but the rest of the world.

Knowing he can’t do it alone, Arthur forms an unlikely alliance with his brother Orm, Atlantis’ former ruler, to defeat Black Manta and overcome their kingdom’s greatest threat.

Directing Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is James Wan, who also directed the first film, from a story he co-developed with David Leslie, Johnson-McGoldrick, Jason Momoa, and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett.

Aquaman movies guide

The first film was released in 2018 and is a certified blockbuster with over a billion dollars worldwide gross. The sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is just about to premiere this December.

It’s worth noting that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be the final movie in the DCEU franchise, which started with Man of Steel in 2013, although that doesn’t darken the possibility of Aquaman 3.

An animated series made for HBO Max, Aquaman: King of Atlantis, is also available to stream on Foxtel, Foxtel Now, and BINGE. It’s also set after the events of 2018’s Aquaman.
