Australian Idol first graced our screens in 2003 on Ten, lasting seven seasons and concluding in 2009. After a 14-year hiatus, Seven revived the series and made a smashing comeback last year, declaring Royston Sagigi-Baira as the Australian Idol 2023 winner.

Confirmed to return for another season this year, Seven has already released a promo that introduces us to this year’s contestants.

What’s in this Guide?

The new season will premiere on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Seven bought the rights to the series from Ten, paving the way for its return on television after 14 years.

The all-new Australian Idol will start Monday, 29 January, introducing new contestants and a much tougher competition.

Just like the previous season, this year’s competition is likely to run for two months.

Following the entertainment-filled Australian Idol 2023 season, the talent series is back for another magical instalment from 29 January exclusively on Channel 7.

For catch-up viewing, Seven’s streaming service, 7plus, is also free to use. All you need to do is register for an account and start streaming hit shows on the service, including top programs Home and Away, One Tree Hill, SAS: UK, Rake, and more!

The search for the next idol will be more competitive than ever with the return of Australian Idol. Rather than giving out 50 golden tickets as seen with the previous season, the 2024 season will only do a Top 30, making it harder for aspiring singers to get in.

The new format aims to shorten the audition run, as well as easily recognise who has the potential to become the country’s next idol from the get-go. The reality talent competition is produced by Eureka Productions for Channel 7.

Still hosted by Scott Tweedie and Ricki-Lee Coulter, the new season also features the return of original judge Marcia Hines, joining last season’s Australian Idol judges Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands. Last season judges Harry Connick Jr. and Meghan Trainor, meanwhile, won’t be returning this year.

Based on the first trailer that Seven just released, here are some of this year’s contestants:

  • Saoirse from Burleigh Heads, QLD
  • Billy from Smythes Creek, VIC
  • Dylan from Bangalow, NSW
  • Amelia from Harrisdale, WA
  • Denvah from Rockhampton, QLD
  • Jesse from Landsdale, WA
  • Drea from Perth, WA
  • Kym from Lightsview, SA
  • Tommi from Busselton, WA
  • Trent from Emu Park, QLD
  • Ivana from Mill Park, VIC
