How to watch Bay of Fires TV show: Episodes, cast and plot

In ABC’s new crime drama, Bay of Fires, Marta Dusseldorp plays a woman requiring an immediate identity change after a life threatening event. Not only does she have to change her name, she and her children must also hide somewhere, preferable in a place anyone would expect.

But her story doesn’t stop even after she’s placed in witness protection, especially when she’s situated amidst locals with dangerous secrets and disdain for outsiders.

Anika Van Cleef (Dusseldorp) is the CEO of the financial brokerage firm ProsperAus. After her partner Johann (Nikolai Nikolaeff) tried to have her killed, the authorities place her and her young family, children Otis (Imi Mbedla) and Iris (Ava Caryofyllis), in Mystery Bay. Armed with a new identity as Stella Heikkinen, she attempts to start anew in the remote Tasmanian town, which the locals call ‘Misery Bay”. However, the isolated town’s residents are tough to deal with. Some are also in witness protection, others are criminally inclined, and the rest are just plain suspicious and unwelcoming.

As Mystery Bay forces just about anyone to cross the lines, Stella ends up promising the residents she’ll get them the money they so badly need, which means planning a shocking crime of her own, all the while Johann and his mercenaries are still resolved to kill Stella and finish the job.

Bay of Fires, which references the actual Bay of Fires on Tasmania’s east coast, is created by Dusseldorp, Andrew Knight, and Max Dann. Natalie Bailey and Wayne Blair each directed four episodes, while Yvonne Collins co-produces the series alongside lead star Marta Dusseldorp. It was funded by Screen Tasmania, in addition to funding from ABC, Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Fremantle, and Archipelago Productions.

Despite its title, the series was primarily filmed in Zeehan on Tasmania’s West Coast. A second season is in development.
