In Chang Can Dunk, an unpopular high schooler finally catches everyone’s attention after he bets his high school’s all-star player that he can slam dunk by Homecoming. Even with his love of the game, he’s never really had the skills, nor the belief that he can. But making a bet with the school basketball star in front of everybody sort of raises the stakes, especially when he also wants to impress the girl he likes.

Now available for streaming on demand, here’s how you can watch the new movie in Australia.

What’s in this Guide?

Chang is a young Asian American teen in the marching band who’s often underestimated by his high school peers. When his school’s basketball star undermines his ability to dunk, he intuitively bets that he can, not at that moment but by Homecoming, because he still needs to practice.

A true basketball fanatic, the bet leads him to channel his inner strength to prove to the entire school that he can dunk, so that he can finally gain their respect. Because Chang can really dunk, and he will.

In the process, the titular character’s determination results in him believing in himself and breaking through not only the barriers set by others, but the barriers set by himself.

Written and directed by Jingyi Shao in his feature directorial debut, the coming-of-age comedy stars Bloom Li as Chang, Dexter Darden as his trainer, and Zoe Renee as his romantic interest Kristy.

Rishi Rajani and Lena Waithe are producing the film through Hillman Grad Productions, alongside Brad Weston. Pamela Thur also serves as executive producer.
