Created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, the Mad Max movies franchise began with Mad Max in 1979. The first ever movie was Mel Gibson’s breakout role, cementing him as an action figure. Two more sequels had been released starring Mel Gibson – Mad Max 2 (1981) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985).

About thirty years after Beyond Thunderdome, a fourth movie was produced with Tom Hardy taking over the titular character in Mad Max: Fury Road. A fifth sequel titled Mad Max: The Wasteland is currently in the works with Hardy returning as the lead. A Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is also set to premiere in 2024.

The Mad Max movies are credited for establishing the apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic genre. Every movie or instalment from the franchise has achieved global success and continues to reel in viewers with more sequels to come.

In Australia, you can watch every Mad Max movie online on selected streaming services, which also offer free trials.

Fortunately, you can watch selected Mad Max movies in one place with BINGE. The streaming TV service offers a free trial so you can stream online without initially paying for a subscription. BINGE has a 7-day free trial for new customers.

Another streaming option to watch Mad Max movies is Foxtel Now. In order to access over 1,000 movies on demand, Foxtel Now offers the Movies pack, which you can add on top of the base Essentials pack.

The 1979 Mad Max movie starring Mel Gibson, however, is no longer on BINGE and Foxtel, although the third film, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, is still available for streaming in Australia via the aforementioned services.

What is Mad Max about?

Set in a future Australia in the midst of societal collapse, Mad Max follows police officer Max Rockatansky. When his family meets a horrific tragedy at the hands of a savage biker gang, Max goes on a vindictive rampage, killing all the members of the gang. After getting his revenge, he becomes a drifter in the now Australian Wasteland.

Spending the entirety of his time wandering the roads as a loner, he turns into a highly skilled road warrior who defends others from those who’ve devolved into barbaric ways. At first, he helps and protects people for his own self-gain, but his motives are actually fueled by compassion.
