NCIS’ long-standing protagonist Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) had an action-packed career even before he became the NCIS team’s fearless leader. With the premiere of an NCIS prequel last year, fans were able to see how he was as a young special agent navigating the treacherous landscapes of the agency. As one of TV’s most familiar faces, Gibbs has a backstory worth telling.
Fortunately for fans, the series was renewed for a second season. Here’s everything to know about NCIS Origins Season 2.
NCIS: Origins Season 2 release date
It has been confirmed that season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, 15 October. New NCIS Origins episodes will air weekly on TV and streaming. The total episode count for the second season has yet to be disclosed, although five episodes have already been confirmed.

What is NCIS: Origins about?
In this new NCIS prequel, Austin Stowell (Bridge of Spies, The Hating Game) portrays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Prior to the formation of NCIS, there was the Naval Investigative Service (NIS), where Gibbs just became a “newly minted special agent”.
The series is set in 1991 and mainly follows Gibbs’ early career at the newly formed NIS Camp Pendleton office. Guided by NCIS legend Mike Franks, he finds his place in the service with every case and experience shaping him to be NCIS’ future leader.
In season 2, Gibbs and Franks (Kyle Schmid) investigate the disappearance of a young Marine. His case proves to be trickier and more complex since it’s connected to a “mysterious compound led by a charismatic figure”. Lala (Mariel Molino), meanwhile, fights for her life after that shocking car crash in season 1 and the new episodes will finally reveal her fate.
Original NCIS star Mark Harmon and his son Sean executive produced the series with Gina Lucita Monreal, David J. North, and Niels Arden Oplev.
Cast of NCIS: Origins
