Mickey 17: Release date and where to watch in Australia

Acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho’s new film, Mickey 17, stars Robert Pattinson.

After the global success of his 2019 film Parasite, Bong releases his latest movie about an expendable employee tasked to take on dangerous missions at a human colony in an ice world. With every assignment, the “disposable” worker is not expected to survive, leading to the creation of replacement clones, that is until “Mickey 17” happens, heavily interrupting the colony’s outrageous ways of doing things.

Coming to cinemas this week, find out when and where to watch Mickey 17 in Australia right here.

Mickey 17’s release date in Australia will be on Thursday, 6 March 2025. The film initially premiered last February at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.

Don’t miss Mickey 17 in Australia coming to cinemas this week. Here’s a trailer of Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi black comedy starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character “Mickey 17”

The movie is just about to premiere in Australian cinemas this week. With new films taking about three months (or longer) to debut on streaming TV, it’s likely for Mickey 17 to be streaming in Australia some time in June or July. It could also take longer, depending on its box-office performance.

We can, however, speculate that it will be streaming on Foxtel and Foxtel Now after its theatrical run and launch on pay per view (Apple TV, Google TV, Prime Video Store, Fetch).

Its global distributor is Warner Bros. Pictures and movies from the studio typically go to Max for streaming online. In Australia, Max will be available for subscription and as part of your Foxtel or Foxtel Now plan.

Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) badly wants to leave Earth so he agrees to sign up as an “expendable” employee. Earth is in the middle of colonising an ice planet called Niflheim where a human colony already exists, which also becomes Mickey’s new workplace. As his assignments are extremely dangerous, Mickey keeps dying, but with a new body regenerated every time he does.

When one of his clones “Mickey 17” is erroneously presumed dead, which means another Mickey (Mickey 18) has already been created to take his place. But with two Mickeys now existing, both of them will need to be eliminated if discovered as per the colony’s rules. Finally admitting that he actually hates dying, Mickey struggles with the nature of being disposable with his 17th and 18th iteration now ignited to resist their colony’s oppressive reign.

Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette also join the cast of Mickey 17

The film is directed and written by Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon-ho, based on Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey7”. In addition to Pattinson, the cast of Mickey 17 also features Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things), Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), Steven Yeun (Beef), Toni Collette (The Staircase), and Holliday Grainger (C.B. Strike). Anamaria Vartolomei, Thomas Turgoose, and Aussie actor Daniel Henshall also star.
