What is the plot of the Anora film?
Mikey Madison offers a riveting performance as Ani, a young sex worker from Brooklyn who gets her own Pretty Woman slash Cinderella story, sort of, when she meets and marries the son of an oligarch, Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn). Unbeknownst to her, he didn’t tell his family about his Las Vegas wedding. When the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened with Vanya’s parents set to have the marriage annulled.
Refusing to return to Russia, Vanya escapes and leaves Ani to deal with his godfather and his henchmen. From writer/director Sean Baker, the romantic drama Anora is brought to life by Mikey Madison’s brassy performance, for which she gained an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Actress.
Baker is also producer alongside Alex Coco and Samantha Quan. In addition to Madison and Eydelshteyn, the film stars Yura Borisov as Igor, Karren Karagulian as Toros, and Vache Tovmasyan as Garnick.
