Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh reprises her role from Star Trek: Discovery in Paramount+’s new television film, Star Trek: Section 31.

Originally planned to be a sequel series, “Section 31” was redeveloped into a movie instead, becoming Star Trek franchise’s first television film. Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who, this time, joins Starfleet’s secret division with the sole mission of protecting the United Federation of Planets.

Here’s everything to know about the new Star Trek: Section 31, including release date and cast.

Star Trek: Section 31 is streaming in Australia on Friday, 24 January 2025. The new Star Trek movie is the fourteenth film overall in the franchise. Fans can watch Section 31 exclusively on Paramount+.

Check out the trailer for Paramount+’s new Star Trek film.

Following former Emperor Georgiou’s final appearance in Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 (she was introduced in the show’s pilot episode), where the the Guardian of Forever (Paul Guilfoyle) sent her to an unknown time and dimension, we find out that she plans to put her second chance to good use.

The emergence of a new threat in deep space unlike anything that Starfleet has ever seen results in the creation of a secret division, sanctioned by the original Starfleet charter. With Starfleet tasked with saving multiple worlds, who else to lead the new Black ops division than Georgiou herself. But with her complicated past, she must also confront her prior sins and afflictions if she were to be worthy of protecting the United Federation of Planets.

In addition to Yeoh, Section 31 also stars Omari Hardwick as Alok, Sam Richardson as Quasi, Robert Kazinsky as Zeph, Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett, Sven Ruygrok as Vulcan or Romulan “Maniac” Fuzz, James Hiroyuki Liao, Humberly Gonzalez as Melle, and Joe Pingue. Miku Martineau also portrays a young Philippa Georgiou.

The new Star Trek movie is set in the franchise’s “lost era” between the Star Trek: The Original Series films and Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, both also serving as an executive producer, alongside Yeoh, Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.
