The Magic of Animation
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) reopened with a boom back in 2021, with a spectacular winter masterpieces display on animation giant Disney, following a substantial makeover. Disney: The Magic of Animation is a 90-year showcase of Disney animation that features a closer look at the behind the scenes of one of the world’s most prolific animation company, Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The rarely seen works show how narrative and animation methods have evolved in some of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ finest features and shorts, including Mickey Mouse’s first talkie Steamboat Willie.
The Animation Exhibition
Participating in the Disney exhibition means that you’d get to explore paintings, sketches and concept art from films such as Frozen, Fantasia and other Disney animated movies. This show, which spans the history of animation from the 1920s to the present, includes original concept artwork and sketches from Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Frozen. As they enter a world of Disney fantasy, guests are greeted by the classic Mickey Mouse silhouette.
The exhibition features five sections that focuses on a different era of innovation. Some of the main highlights are from perfecting the animation techniques of bringing two-dimensional drawings to life in the 1920s to the creation of the first animated feature films and the digital revolution and advancements of the modern day.
