The Sydney Sixers have been one of the most successful teams in the Big Bash League since it began back in 2011, when they won the inaugural T20 cricket tournament. They are also the reigning BBL champions, and, if they take the title again this year they will be the first side to claim three titles in a row. Find out how to watch Sydney Sixers games here.

Sydney Sixers team preview
The Sixers have been the most in-form BBL side over the past two seasons. Lifting the trophy on two occasions is part of the proof, but it is their performances across the course of the regular season that has made them a real standout side. They finished second in the regular season ladder in 2019, and went one further in 2020, confirming their status as one of the hardest teams to beat in the competition.
This all starts to make a little more sense we look at the depth and variety they have in their squad. Last year’s lineup included established Aussie in internationals like Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, providing a tasty mix of pace and spin in attack. Their batting line-up also featured some real heavyweights in the shape of West Indian batsman Carlos Brathwaite, English all-rounder Tom Curran and T20 batting specialist James Vince.
Many of these names have been replaced for the 2021/22 Big Bash League. But there is expected to be some final tweaks made to the team before the BBL season gets underway for them on December 5th (against Melbourne Stars) at the SCG. English Batsmen Joe Denley is set to replace Braithwaite, whilst Sean Abbott comes in for Mitchell Starc, who will be busy preparing for an Ashes series.

Sydney Sixers games to watch this season
Being one of the most successful teams in the Big Bash League means that the Sydney Sixers have established some juicy rivalries. Here are the key games to look out for during the Big Bash season.
Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers
The first-ever BBL final in 2012 was Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers. Since then these two sides have gone on to become the competitions two most successful teams with three titles each. They met again in last year’s final when the Sixers won by 27 runs, meaning there is always plenty of history when the two sides take to the field.
Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers
When Brisbane Heat takes on the Sydney Sixers there is that added element of Queensland v New South Wales. Although the Sixers are the most successful of these two sides it is often Brisbane who have had the upper hand in recent head to heads, highlighted by their convincing win at the Gabba last January. Brisbane will be looking to make a push for title glory themselves this year so more wins over the Sixers will be vital.
Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars
Melbourne Stars are very much the ‘nearly’ men of BBL. They have suffered three Grand Final losses, the latest coming against the Sydney Sixers in 2020. Games between these two always serve up a feast of runs and boundaries, with the added bonus of it being NSW v VIC derby.
Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers
Probably the biggest local derby on the BBL calendar is when the Sydney Thunder take on the Sydney Sixers. The fact that the Sixers have three titles to Thunder’s one tells you everything you need to know about who has the bragging rights. Games between these two at the SCG serve up a carnival atmosphere and a stellar standard of cricket to match.
Best Sydney Sixers players 2021
There have been a few changes to personnel alongside some established names in the Sydney Sixers squad for the 2021/22 season. Check out the players we think are going to make a splash in the big bash.
Tom Curran can do it all in the shortest format of the game. He scores plenty of (quick) runs and can take wickets with his medium-fast pace bowling. He has had a key role in the title-winning sides of the past two seasons and is one of the growing amounts of English players to start having a big impact in the Big Bash League.
A man who bamboozles batsmen with every ball in Mr Nathan Lyon. He is a master of off-spin that has literally done it on every stage. If he is called up to the Aussie squad for the Ashes he could miss big parts of the Big Bash season. Sydney Sixers fans will be hoping he doesn’t get that call up!
One of the more surprising signings of the Sixers off-season has been English batsmen Joe Denly. He had a season with the Brisbane Heat in 2019/20 and few thought he would be leaving the Queensland side. He has played for test cricket for England in the past, but has now resigned himself to a career at domestic level.
Fans of Aussie cricket will be very familiar with Jack Edwards. The Australia U21 all-rounder is on a trajectory that looks like taking him right to the top of the game. He is still awaiting his first full call up to the men’s senior squad, but another good season with Sydney Sixers will put him right in the spotlight.
