The 2019 Rugby World Cup will be bigger and better than ever, and now it will also be available to Australian’s across a variety of platforms, with the news that free-to-air broadcaster Network Ten and subscription platform Foxtel have won the broadcast rights.

The tournament is set to be held in Japan, which bodes well for broadcasters of the event in Australia. Japanese Standard Time is just one hour behind AEST and two hours behind AEDT, meaning many of the matches will occur during prime-time for Australian viewers – ideal for rugby fans and broadcasters alike.

This year’s Rugby World Cup, which will be the ninth edition of the event, will kick off on the 20th of September with a clash between host nation Japan and Russia. The pool stage will run through the the 13th of October, after which the quarterfinals begin on the 19th of the same month. The 2019 Rugby World Cup final will take place on the 2nd of November at the International Stadium Yokohama.

Network Ten, the Rugby World Cup 2019 free to air broadcaster, will televise just eleven games throughout the tournament – including every Wallabies match as well as every game from the semi- finals onwards – leaving Foxtel as the comprehensive winner of the broadcast deal. The TV subscription giant has the rights to every game of the event, including those shown on free to air, which means you have plenty of ways to tune into all the action.

Foxtel subscribers with the Sports pack will be able to watch every minute of every game on a Rugby World Cup dedicated channel. This includes all of Foxtel’s platforms and their eligible devices, with special World Cup programming including match previews, daily highlights and replays of previous tournaments, with every 2019 match broadcast ad-break free during play on a dedicated channel. Alternatively, you can access these very same World Cup broadcasts via Kayo Sports, the streaming service that Foxtel launched late last year.

Watch Online with Foxtel Go

New or existing subscribers to Foxtel Now who have the Sports pack included in their package will have access to all of the games via a compatible mobile and internet connected devices, including the option to stream the matches free with the Foxtel Go app.

Stream Live on Kayo Sports

That isn’t the only option, however, with Kayo Sports, Australia’s first sports-dedicated streaming service, also set to show each and every game of the event across a variety of mobile devices. Kayo Sports is available for just $25/month, and gives you access to all the sport Foxtel has to offer without having to pay for the extras. There’s also a 14 day free Kayo Sports trial offer for new subscribers, so you can test the platform before you commit.

4K Ultra HD is the latest in broadcasting technology. Using four times the number of pixels as High Definition and 20 times that of Standard Definition, it offers a never-seen-before picture quality. Foxtel has gradually been rolling out more and more sporting events in 4K, and the Rugby World Cup is the latest addition to the list.

All 48 games of the tournament will be shown live, ad-break free and in 4K, ensuring Foxtel boasts the most comprehensive coverage of the event. To watch the action in 4K, you will need an iQ4 set-top box and a 4K compatible television – once you’ve got that sorted, you’re ready to go.
