The Getaway King, directed by Mateusz Rakowicz, presents a captivating portrait of Zdzisław Najmrodzki, a criminal whose escapades are both humorous and thought-provoking. The film's tone oscillates between light-hearted comedy and moments of genuine reflection, making it a unique entry in the genre. The performances are commendable, particularly the lead, who brings an endearing charm to Najmrodzki. The film cleverly utilises its historical context, providing insight into life in the Polish People’s Republic while maintaining an entertaining narrative. Overall, The Getaway King is a well-crafted film that balances comedy with a deeper exploration of its subject's life.

★★★★★3/5
The Getaway King is a quirky take on the life of Zdzisław Najmrodzki, and while it has its amusing moments, it sometimes feels uneven. The film's comedic approach to serious themes can be jarring, making it difficult to fully engage with the narrative. The lead performance shines, bringing a playful energy that keeps the film afloat. However, it occasionally struggles to find its footing between comedy and drama. If you're in the mood for something light and entertaining, The Getaway King offers that, but don't expect a deep dive into its subject matter. It's an enjoyable watch, though perhaps not as impactful as it could have been.
