Roohi (2021)

Roohi, directed by Hardik Mehta, presents an intriguing fusion of horror and comedy, set against the backdrop of a fictional North Indian town. The narrative revolves around Bhaura and Kattanni, two small-town boys who find themselves in a peculiar predicament with a spirited girl named Roohi. While the film initially captivates with its quirky premise and vibrant visuals, it sometimes falters in pacing and character development. The performances, particularly from the lead actors, are commendable, injecting much-needed energy into the narrative. However, the film's tonal shifts can be jarring, oscillating between light-hearted humour and moments of horror. Despite its flaws, Roohi is an entertaining watch for those seeking a blend of genres, though it may not satisfy purists of either horror or comedy. Overall, it is a commendable effort that showcases the potential for innovative storytelling within Indian cinema.

Roohi is an unexpected delight, a film that dances on the edge of horror and comedy with a flair that’s both charming and engaging. The plot, following two hapless boys stuck in a forest with the enchanting Roohi and an ominous spirit, is refreshingly original. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the performances are genuinely entertaining, especially the comedic timing displayed throughout. The film manages to strike a balance between laugh-out-loud moments and spine-tingling scares, making it a rollercoaster ride of emotions. While it may not delve deep into character backstories, it compensates with a fun narrative and stunning visuals. Roohi is a film that invites you to let go, laugh, and perhaps even scream a little. If you're looking for something different, this one’s worth your time!
