My Life With The Walter Boys is an American drama series that focuses on Jackie Howard, a fifteen-year-old orphan. She moves in with the large Walter family in Silver Falls, Colorado, and must adjust to life in a new town.
Season 2 picks up shortly after the end of the first series, with Jackie returning to the Walter Ranch after spending the summer in New York. She’s determined to make the best of it, but being the centre of a love triangle makes things harder than she’d like.
My Life With The Walter Boys is the kind of television that’s best described as ‘easy.’ It’s the type of thing that teenagers can put on when the school day finishes and let relaxation wash over them.
It’s thoroughly untaxing and packed with charm. Every episode is full of rugged landscapes and preposterously good-looking lads fawning over the unassuming heroine. Yes, it does get a little cheesy and overwrought at times, but that’s part of the appeal. It’s made for lovestruck teenagers, and it’ll keep your offspring distracted while you get dinner finished. And okay, we might have got more invested in Jackie’s love life than we’d like to admit.
Team Cole all day.
Season 2 received a better response than the first series, with critics praising the acting and cinematography. There were a few complaints about repetitive storylines, but it was noticed as an improvement over its predecessor.
The second series of My Life With The Walter Boys has yet to be nominated for any awards. That being said, the first series picked up a reasonable amount, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the running for:
This series encompasses several themes likely to resonate with the target teenage audience. The heroine is a girl whose life has been upended, and brought her sense of identity into question. She’s not yet accustomed to living in a rural community and has to reexamine who she thought she was. The death of her parents hangs over her too, the grief affecting her outlook.
Further complicating this is her mixed feelings for Cole and Alex. Love triangles are awkward enough, but she’s caught between brothers and knows that whatever choice she makes, someone will get hurt.
Melanie Halsall has worked on a wide range of TV shows aimed at younger audiences, but strangely, My Life With The Walter Boys doesn’t have much in common with her other projects. Her earlier work was on shows for younger audiences, and cartoons like Dennis And Gnasher (2009) are a far cry from this.
The soundtrack for this series is a mix of pop, rock, and indie songs, with a few original instrumentals by Brian H. Kim. If you’re familiar with the soundtrack to the first season, this is very much in the same vibe and almost feels like the opposite side of an indie teenager’s mixtape.
It includes songs by artists like Billie Eilish and Paramore, along with a few retro artists such as The Cure. It’s a playful mix of upbeat charm and wistful romanticism, and we can easily imagine Jackie listening to it whilst alone in her room.
It’s already out. The My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2 release date was August 28th 2025.
Yes, the series has been renewed for a third season. It is expected to debut in 2026.
This season is rated M for Mature, due to the themes of grief, romance, mild language, and teen relationships. It is sweet, but we’d recommend not showing it to children under 15.
The directing duties were split between three people; veteran director Jason Priestley helmed six episodes, while Audrey Cummings and Monika Mitchell each directed two.
No, unlike the first series, which was based on Novak’s book, this season is an entirely original story and has no relationship with the sequel novel.
