★★★★★3/5
Il Re is an ambitious film that tries to tackle heavy themes of power and morality, but it doesn’t always hit the mark. While the performances are solid, especially from the lead, the plot sometimes feels muddled and slow. The direction by Giuseppe Gagliardi brings some visually striking moments, but the pacing leaves a lot to be desired. There are gripping scenes that shine, yet others where the film loses momentum. It's a mixed bag-certainly engaging but not without its flaws. For those who enjoy political dramas, Il Re might still be worth a watch, but it may not leave a lasting impression.
