Sydney Swans AFL Live Streaming and Free to Air TV Guide

Sydney Swans logo

The Sydney Swans, who were formerly known as the South Melbourne Football Club before relocating, are one of the oldest teams in AFL with a history that goes back to 1874. They were also one of the first teams based outside of Victoria. The Sydney Swans have played in the AFL premiership grand final three times since 2012, the most recent being a 2016 loss against the Western Bulldogs. In the time since, the Swans have faded into mediocrity along with AFL clubs that haven’t seen a finals season for decades. But, 2021 has been an incredible turnaround for the Bloods. One that will likely see them close to the big game.

With the team’s huge legacy of greats, the current crop of Swans players is still very decorated. The obvious name that comes to mind is two-time Coleman Medalist Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin, though he is joined by future Brownlow, Coleman or even Norm Smith medallists like Isaac Heeney, Tom Papley, Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe.

2021 Sydney Swans Preview

Premiership and All-Australian head coach, John Longmire has led the team to finals multiple times and is sure he can lead them to another AFL Grand Final this term. The club hasn’t been much of a league favourite since 2016, but something about the 2021 COVID-19 season has rallied the Swans up the premiership ladder.

Currently sitting in the top 8 of the AFL ladder, the Sydney Swans are still claiming fewer losses than most teams. Their losses currently come from finals contenders like Port Adelaide and longtime rivals Hawthorn. A matchup against fellow Sydney rival, the GWS Giants is looming which always makes for an intense proof of strength for the winner.

Part of their rise is down to the Swans’ team of young guns. The Sydney roster of rookies is impressive, with young guns like Errol Gulden and Logan McDonald already proving their worth. Now that the Swans are fierce once again, it’s not hard to see another AFL grand final coming to the real pride of Sydney.
