Head Above Water is a four-part Amazon Original docuseries that interviews elite Australian swimmers’ Ian Thorpe AM, Bronte Campbell OAM, and Kyle Chalmers OAM, as well as former-junior-champion-turned-international-musician Cody Simpson, in the lead up to the Olympic Games in July.  Head Above Water premiered on Amazon Prime Video in Australia on June 4, 2021. What does it take to become an Olympian swimmer? The documentary tries to answer the question by taking a deep dive into the lives of four Australian icons; reigning champion Kyle Chalmers, two-time Olympian Bronte Campbell, retired Olympic hero Ian Thorpe, and aspiring Olympian and global music superstar Cody Simpson.

Like any Olympic sport, swimming requires an immense level of dedication and willpower to become the very best. Add to it the fierce competition that exists between swimmers, and you have a pressure cooker scenario that takes everything out of an Olympic hopeful. 

Head Above Water brings viewers up, close, and personal to some of the best swimmers in Australia. Each episode reflects the challenges that the best swimmers face, inside and outside the pool. The athletes talk about how they swim through personal sacrifice and draining sessions to achieve their dreams. 

The docu-series focuses on different aspects of the sport: You have Ian Thorpe talk about his life before, during, and after the immense success he achieved. Cody Simpson comes back to swimming after taking a break from his music. Then you have Kyle Chalmers and Bronte Campbell detailing their path to medal dreams Olympics glory. It’s a must-watch for Aussie sports fans.
