A-League Women 2025/26 Roster Updates
A-League Women teams have been hard at work honing their tactics and switching things up for 2025/26. Only time will tell if it will pay off. In the meantime, football fans can sit back and watch the action unfold.
A-League Women 2025/26 sees a new playing field, with major teams having made significant changes. Here are the updates you should know about:
- As with A-League Men, Western United women’s team has been withdrawn from the 2025/26 tournament. The team is in “conditional hibernation” and their players have been released as free agents. This brings the total number of competing teams down to 11.
- Sydney FC has brought in a swathe of young talent, including Bianca Galic, Madison Ayson, Riley Tanner, Laurie-Ann Moïse, and more.
- Brisbane Roar brings in Daisy Brown and Ava Piazza.
- Kiwi goalkeeper Anna Leat has joined the Western Sydney Wanderers.
- Adelaide United is welcoming Holly Murray, Lara Gooch, and Paige Zois, among others.
Introducing the New Fixtures and Schedules
With women’s football viewership on the rise, there have been calls for certain changes to match scheduling. For example, many fans felt too many A-League Women games were too late in the day, meaning younger audiences often missed them. Likewise, there were often a lot of simultaneous kickoffs that meant fans could only watch one game.
Scheduling will change in 2025/26. The A-League is working hard to make sure kickoffs and double headers don’t get in the way of the fun and as many people can enjoy the tournament as possible. Hopefully, these changes will increase the amount of football we can all enjoy!
More About the A-League Women
A-League Women is one of the three APL top leagues in Australian football, alongside A-League Men and A-League Youth. It represents the height of women’s football in Australia. The league was founded in 2008 as the W-League, before rebranding as the A-League Women in 2021 to align with other APL tournaments.
Now, around 12 teams routinely compete, up from the 8 original teams, and many of these players go on to play for the Matildas (Australia’s women’s national team). Top stars include Sam Kerr, Caitlin Foord, Ellie Carpenter, Steph Catley, and Kyah Simon. Around 2 million people have watched the A-League Women since its founding.
