★★★★★4/5
Once Upon a Crime presents a delightful fusion of classic fairy tale elements and a modern mystery narrative. Directed by Yuichi Fukuda, the film follows Little Red Riding Hood as she navigates intrigue at a royal ball. The plot is engaging, with well-timed humour and charming character interactions that keep the audience entertained throughout. The performances are commendable, particularly from the lead, who portrays Little Red Riding Hood with a perfect balance of innocence and determination. The cinematography captures the enchanting atmosphere of the ball, enhancing the whimsical tone of the story. While it may not reinvent the genre, Once Upon a Crime offers a refreshing and enjoyable cinematic experience for families and fairy tale enthusiasts alike.

★★★★★3/5
Once Upon a Crime has a fun premise that could have flourished into something really special. Little Red Riding Hood at a royal ball sounds like a recipe for intrigue, yet the film often feels like it skims the surface. The potential for deeper character development is overshadowed by a plot that, while entertaining, lacks the complexity to truly captivate. The performances are spirited, but at times they feel like they’re playing to the whimsical nature of the story rather than grounding it. The film is certainly suitable for children and provides some laughs, yet it may leave older viewers craving a richer narrative. Overall, it’s a light watch, but don’t expect to be blown away.
