★★★★★4/5
Northern Skies Over Empty Space is a striking portrayal of change in rural Mexico, masterfully directed by Alejandra Márquez Abella. The film dives into the lives of characters often relegated to the sidelines, offering a fresh perspective on their struggles and resilience. The cinematography captures the stark beauty of the landscape, enhancing the emotional weight of the narrative. Performances are nuanced, particularly from the lead, who embodies the pain and hope of her community. While the pacing may feel slow to some, it allows for a deeper connection to the characters and their journey. Overall, this film is a poignant reflection on the inevitability of change and the strength found in community.

★★★★★3/5
Northern Skies Over Empty Space is an interesting film but doesn't quite hit the mark for me. While it attempts to capture the essence of life in rural Mexico, the narrative sometimes feels disjointed and lacks a clear direction. The performances are solid, and there are moments of genuine beauty, but I found myself longing for a stronger storyline. The themes of change and resilience are certainly relevant, yet the film's pace can drag, making it a bit of a chore to sit through at times. It's worth a watch for its unique perspective, but it may not resonate with everyone.
