About Cagaster of an Insect Cage
At the end of the 21st century, a rare disease called “Cagaster” broke out, turning humans into huge insects. Two-thirds of the earth‘s population was devoured by these insects before humanity made a decision: they must exterminate the infected people. In the year 2125 - thirty years after the discovery of Cagaster - at the edge of the desert close to the “cage” of the insects, a young pest exterminator named Kidou finds a man close to death due to the wounds by insects. The man entrusts his daughter Ilie to Kidou and asks him to search for the girl‘s mother…

★★★★★4/5
Cagaster of an Insect Cage presents a haunting vision of a future ravaged by a grotesque disease. The narrative follows Kidou, a pest exterminator, who becomes entangled in a poignant quest to protect a young girl. The film's animation is striking, effectively capturing the horror of human transformation into monstrous insects. Director Koichi Ohata skillfully blends action and emotional depth, providing viewers with a thought-provoking commentary on survival and morality in a dystopian setting. The character development, particularly of Kidou, adds layers to the story, making it not just a tale of horror, but also one of human resilience. While it may not cater to all tastes, its unique premise and emotional weight make it a worthy watch.

★★★★★3/5
Cagaster of an Insect Cage starts strong with its chilling premise, but as the story unfolds, it occasionally loses its momentum. Kidou's journey is compelling, yet the film sometimes feels bogged down by its heavy themes. The animation is visually stunning, but the horror elements can be overwhelming, potentially alienating some viewers. The emotional core of the film shines through in Kidou's relationship with Ilie, but the pacing can be uneven, leaving some parts feeling drawn out. Overall, it’s an intriguing watch for fans of the genre, but it may not resonate with everyone due to its intense nature and bleak outlook.
