Device Compatibility with Streaming Services

When it comes to choosing a new streaming service, it’s worth thinking about what you’ll be using to watch it. You don’t want to rush into a plan, run into a problem and have to Google “can I play Prime Video on my tablet?”

The good news is that the majority of TV and film platforms in Australia are designed to work with a wide range of devices. It’s actually harder to find a device you can’t use to stream TV than one that does. Providing your device was made after 2014, there’s a safe bet it’ll support your chosen streaming platform.

What’s on TV in Australia Tonight?

We love streaming TV, but let’s not forget that the traditional Australian TV channels are still there. If you’d like to easily find what’s on television today, you can check out our online TV guide.

But if nothing catches your eye, fret not. There’s a myriad of entertainment available on online streaming services. And unlike free-to-air TV, you can pause, rewind, and fast forward at any time. So, if you need to run out for snacks, you won’t have to wait for an ad break or race back so you don’t miss anything.

Streaming TV FAQs

Do Australian Streaming Services Work Overseas?

For the most part, yes, although there is a caveat. The major streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ are available worldwide, but there can be regional differences in their media libraries. For instance, if you were to log into your Netflix account in America, you’ll notice they have different films available.
Some of our homegrown platforms meanwhile, won’t work anywhere except Australia and a few select overseas markets. With Stan for example, you’ll still be able to watch anything you’ve downloaded, but not the rest of your library.

Which is the Best Streaming Platform for Classic Films?

If you want to watch the golden age of Hollywood movies, Prime Video is your best bet. They have the largest collection of classic films available, although you will have to pay additional fees for some of them.

What is the Cheapest Way to Combine Streaming Platforms in Australia?

If you’re interested in combining streaming platforms, the best way is via Optus. They offer a SubHub platform, which lets you add multiple streaming services at once and at a reduced price.

Are There Any Niche Streaming Platforms In Australia?

Yes, we’ve covered most of the big ones here, but there are many smaller platforms available. Sports fans may be interested in Kayo Sports or Optus Sports, and there’s also DAZN, which is a must for boxing enthusiasts. There’s also Triller TV, which is dedicated to professional wrestling and MMA, but occasionally shows football and cricket events.
Outside of sport, you can keep track of major news using Flash News, and reality TV enthusiasts will enjoy a Hayu subscription. Shudder specialises in horror films, whereas DocPlay has an extensive library of documentaries. There’s an enormous variety for Australian TV and film fans.
