Small Axe Australia

All five episodes of Small Axe are based on real-life stories of people who changed civil rights for black people in the UK. It’s directed by Steve McQueen, the man behind films such as 12 Years A Slave and Hunger. Find out how to watch every episode of Small Axe here.

The five individual stories at the heart of Small Axe take place between the 1960s and 1980s. They can be considered short films that highlight the enormous difficulty non-whites faced during this period, and how the experiences of many led to fundamental changes in British society.

This anthology takes place in London and is anchored in West Indian culture. From unnecessary raids by police on Caribbean establishments to a black man trying to become a police officer within a racist institution, Small Axe is compelling and informative viewing from the opening scene.

Starring John Boyega (Star Wars), Sheri Cole (Tiny Pretty Things) and Shaun Parkes (Human Traffic), Small Axe has arrived in Australia, and using the information in this guide you can find out exactly how and where to watch it.
