About Apple TV

Apple are a household name, and they moved into the streaming world in 2019. Apple TV is their in-house streaming platform, dedicated to providing consistently high-quality films and TV. Apple TV is linked to their similarly-named Apple TV hardware, but can be used independently.

How Much is Apple TV?

Apple TV has one standard subscription plan, and since you can share it with up to five other people, it can be a very cost-effective choice. Imagine sharing one monthly fee with two or three housemates, and you’ll understand how cheap it can get.

You can also purchase Apple TV as part of the Apple One deal. This combines up to five Apple services into one, and depending on which ones you choose, can drive down the overall cost of your Apple TV subscription. It requires a bit of juggling, but Apple fans will definitely want to look into it.

Can I Watch Apple TV for Free?

Yes, in fact, Apple TV offers one of the best free trials on the market. They offer new customers a seven-day trial on signup, but the real benefit is if you buy another Apple device. They frequently offer bundle deals, and while the details vary, if you’re in the market for a new iPhone, iPad, or other Apple product, you could get an incredible three months of TV included for free.

Is Apple TV Worth It?

The Apple TV media catalogue is smaller than its competitors, but the service favours quality over quantity. Install the Apple TV app, and you’ll only get their original content, but they have some of the best new films and TV on Australian streaming services.

Apple TV Features

Apple TV has a couple of features that make it worth investing in. The original content is the biggest selling point, but the service also benefits from:

• Intuitive interface - the app is remarkably easy to navigate and responds to your watching habits. You’ll soon find that you’re being recommended shows and films in line with your personal tastes.
• Strong customer support - Apple tech support are highly trained and knowledgeable. They’re easy to contact, and on the rare occasions you encounter an issue, resolving it takes little effort.
• High-quality picture and sound - All Apple TV subscribers are offered spatial audio and 4K screen quality, for a top-notch viewing experience.

What’s on Apple TV?

The Apple TV library is filled with highly-regarded TV shows and movies. Their original content frequently attracts glowing reviews from fans and critics alike. For example, the comedy-drama Ted Lasso and the disturbing sci-fi series Severance were massive hits, while For All Mankind is one of the best shows in recent years.

Their collection of films is similarly exclusive. Greyhound was a nail-biting war thriller, while The Tragedy Of Macbeth was an incredible Shakespearean adaptation by one-half of the Coen brothers. Ghosted was one of the platform’s biggest films and is a light-hearted action romp, while Killers Of The Flower Moon was another masterpiece from the legendary Martin Scorsese.

What’s New on Apple TV?

Apple TV regularly updates with new content, adding new shows and films weekly. They rarely drop full series in one go, and new episodes of their TV shows tend to be added once a week. New films are added on a regular basis too, so you’re never short of something to watch.

Best Apple TV Alternatives

Apple TV is an excellent platform, but if you’d like a wider choice of streaming apps, there are multiple alternatives. For example:

• Stan - Stan is an Australian original. Like Apple TV, it has a lot of exclusive, in-house titles. However, they also have agreements with several major studios, so they don’t just have their own content. They also have an incredible sports-focused add-on.
• HBO Max - HBO are an American powerhouse with an impressive library. The HBO Max platform is full of popular hits like Game Of Thrones and Succession.
• Netflix - Perhaps the best-known streaming platform, Netflix have learned from years of experience and their app is one of the most user-friendly. They’ve got an extensive library of original content, plus a wider range of licensed films and TV shows.
