Must See AFL Fixtures

In addition to the twenty-three rounds of elite competition, the below contests carry extra significance due to their popularity, intensity and geographical impact, including the key AFL free to air matches.

Western Derby XL

The Western Derby XLV will see the Eagles take on the Dockers in what is always an intense contest between the two sides, and with this marking the fortieth contest between the clubs it should be even more interesting. Fremantle have won six of the past seven Western Derbies, while West Coast will look to make it two in a row despite playing a tough stretch in the previous several rounds.

Anzac Day Clash

This year the live Anzac Day matches fall on a Monday, but the main event will be the traditional clash between the Collingwood Magpies and Essendon Bombers. The meeting will carry extra significance due to it being the year following 100th anniversary and the emotion on display the last time out, so outside of the Melbourne Cup, Bathurst 1000 and Grand Finals this match is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events on the Australian calendar.

Showdown XL

South Australia will pause for two hours to conclude Showdown 42 between the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power. Both sides scored a victory each in the two showdowns played last year, and it’s always such a brilliant spectacle, more so now at the Adelaide Oval, which is one of the best sporting grounds in the world.

2017 AFL Premiership Finals Series

The best eight sides from the Home and Away season will battle it out for Premiership glory across four weeks, starting on September 1, which is a Friday night, with the first placed side taking on the fourth placed side. The Finals format is great for fans because the top four sides play each other, with the winners advancing to the Grand Final Qualifier with a chance to etch their name into greatness. The defending champs are the Western Bulldogs, and this year they will be looking to repeat their spectacular 2016 Grand Final win, with a chance to prove it wasn’t a one-in-60-years fluke.
