Foxtel is introducing a free version of its fast-growing Kayo streaming sport service.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany has used today’s Foxtel’s online showcase event to announce a big change to the way Kayo works – whether you’re a current subscriber or not. Soon, even if you cancel your subscription, you’ll still be able to stream some live sports as well as hours of on-demand games and other content.

Kayo has grown to more than 600,000 paid subscribers, creating a premium sports audience for advertisers, he said.

However, in 2021 Foxtel will be changing the way Kayo works so that there’ll be selected sports, news and shows in front of the paywall – all you’ll need to watch them is a Kayo account, with no payment or credit card needed to sign up.

This new freemium Kayo will include clips, repeats, shows and statistics – and also selected live sports.

“We see this as a way for consumers to experience Kayo without a credit card and a way for subscribers to continue their Kayo experience if they paused their subscription after a big event or at the end of their favourite sports season,” said Delany.

“This is a game-changer in subscription television and another opportunity to deliver advertisers even greater premium reach, and we will be providing more details in the new year.”
