★★★★★4/5
Ya Boy Kongming! presents a fascinating juxtaposition of ancient wisdom and contemporary music culture. The film’s plot, centred around the rebirth of a historical strategist in modern Japan, is both original and engaging. Director Shuhei Shibue successfully crafts a narrative that balances humour and heartfelt moments, particularly through the character of Eiko, played with charm and sincerity. The film excels in showcasing the protagonist's growth, supported by Kongming's clever strategies that often veer into comedic territory. The cinematography beautifully captures the vibrancy of Tokyo, enhancing the overall viewing experience. While the pacing occasionally falters, particularly in the middle sections, the film’s conclusion leaves audiences with a sense of hope and inspiration. Overall, Ya Boy Kongming! is a delightful watch that appeals to both anime fans and newcomers alike.

★★★★★3.5/5
If you're in the mood for something quirky and uplifting, Ya Boy Kongming! might just hit the right notes. The concept of an ancient strategist helping a modern-day musician is as wild as it sounds, and it certainly makes for some entertaining moments. Sure, the film has its clichés, but there's a certain charm in watching Eiko grow from an aspiring singer to a star with Kongming’s eccentric guidance. The humour can be hit-or-miss, but when it lands, it brings genuine laughs. However, I felt the film could have explored deeper emotional themes rather than sticking to a predictable path. It’s a fun ride, but not without its flaws. If you like a mix of music, comedy, and a sprinkle of history, give it a shot!
