Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale revolves around June Osborne / Offred, a woman captured during the rule of Gilead — America’s new totalitarian, theonomic government following the nation’s collapse as a result of the Second American Civil War. The new established government forces women to take on limited roles in society; hence, forcing June to be a concubine and renamed Offred.
