★★★★★4/5
News of a Kidnapping is a compelling adaptation that immerses viewers in the harrowing events surrounding the kidnapping of Maruja Pachón and Beatriz Villamizar. Set against the backdrop of 1990s Colombia, the film effectively captures the essence of a nation grappling with the repercussions of drug trafficking. The performances are commendable, particularly from the lead actors who portray the emotional strain of their characters with sincerity. The direction is tight, maintaining a steady pace that keeps the audience engaged throughout. However, some may find the film's depiction of violence unsettling, which adds to its authenticity but may not appeal to all viewers. Overall, this film is a poignant reflection on resilience and the human spirit amidst chaos.

★★★★★3/5
News of a Kidnapping presents a gripping story, but it sometimes feels like it gets lost in its own narrative. While the performances are strong and the tension palpable, the pacing can be uneven, leaving some scenes feeling drawn out. The emotional weight is certainly there, and the film does a great job of portraying the fear and desperation faced by the families. However, it lacks some of the polish one might expect from a film of this nature. It’s worth a watch for those interested in true crime stories, but may not resonate with everyone. Ultimately, it’s an important story told with heart, even if it stumbles at times.
