Review Team

★★★★★4/5

Avocado Toast is a delightful exploration of the complexities of modern relationships interwoven with humour and warmth. The film follows Molly, a teacher who unexpectedly finds love with a woman, while her parents reveal their unconventional lifestyle as swingers. This revelation forces Molly and her sister Elle to confront their own understanding of love and acceptance. The performances are commendable, with the lead actress portraying Molly’s journey of self-discovery with sincerity and depth. The direction is thoughtful, allowing the narrative to unfold naturally, balancing comedic elements with poignant moments. While it may not break new ground, Avocado Toast is an engaging watch that resonates with anyone navigating their own relationship dynamics.

Editor Team

★★★★★3/5

Avocado Toast is a quirky film that attempts to tackle the awkwardness surrounding family and sexuality with a comedic twist. Molly's journey of falling in love with a woman for the first time is relatable, yet the film sometimes feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy with its swinger parents subplot. While there are moments of genuine humour and insight, the pacing can feel uneven, and some character arcs don't quite land. The performances are enjoyable, particularly from the leads, but overall, it lacks the depth one might hope for. It's entertaining enough for a casual watch, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking.
