★★★★★4/5
Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches successfully intertwines the elements of horror and drama, presenting a fresh take on the witchcraft genre. The film centres around a young neurosurgeon, portrayed with depth and nuance, who discovers her family's dark secrets. The cinematography beautifully captures the eerie essence of the narrative, enhancing the tension throughout. The performances are commendable, particularly the lead, who brings a relatable vulnerability to her character's struggles with newly awakened powers. While the pacing occasionally falters, the film's emotional core remains strong, making it a worthy addition to the realm of supernatural storytelling. This adaptation resonates with both fans of Anne Rice's work and newcomers alike, offering a compelling exploration of identity and legacy.

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches is a mixed bag that might leave viewers wanting more. The premise is intriguing, with a young neurosurgeon discovering her witchy heritage, but the film sometimes feels bogged down by its own ambitions. The lead actress gives a solid performance, capturing the turmoil of her character’s transformation, yet the supporting cast is underutilised. The visual style is haunting, with some genuinely creepy moments that fans of horror will appreciate. However, the plot lacks the punch needed to fully engage the audience, leading to a somewhat anticlimactic conclusion. It’s entertaining enough if you’re in the mood for something supernatural, but it may not be memorable in the long run.
