BINGE lifestyle

Binge is a relative newcomer to the streaming market and was launched in 2020. It was created by Foxtel and is closely linked to their Foxtel Now platform. Binge is one of Australia’s fastest-growing streaming services and has amassed over a million subscribers since its debut.

Binge combines regular streaming services with live TV access. You can stream a wide array of TV series and films, then switch over to more traditional television at the click of a button. It’s easy to use, cost-effective, and well worth exploring.

Is Binge Worth It?

We think so. Binge has an impressive catalogue of TV series and films available, and being able to switch to live television is remarkably rewarding. It’s reasonably priced and has a strong catalogue too. They have content from major studios like NBC, Sky, and AMC originals, and there are at least 10,000 hours of viewing to enjoy.

Binge Features

Binge has several features that enhance the viewing experience. We’ve already touched upon the ability to swap to live TV with ease, but Binge has a few subtle extras worth mentioning. This includes:

  • Surprise Me! – This is a fun option that’s perfect if you can’t make up your mind on what to watch. Click this, and Binge will randomly select a show or film. It’s helped us discover a few hidden gems.
  • Binge Centre – Want to discover more information about a film? In the Binge centre, you can find behind-the-scenes details, cast interviews, and more.
  • BingeLists – You can easily save content to watch in future. This option is ideal for anyone who’s ever grappled with the choice of either going to bed or finishing the movie.
  • Selected sports – Binge is linked to Kayo Sports, and lets you access a selection of their live events.

What’s on Binge?

Binge has a varied catalogue and is notable for being one of the few streaming platforms to offer news channels. If you want to keep up with current events, you can access CNN, Bloomberg, and MSNBC. Alongside this, they’ve got an extensive collection of comedies, dramas, mystery thrillers and more.

Binge has an enormous library of films, and is also a good place to watch sporting events, thanks to its relationship with Kayo Sports. You can find the best shows and films on Binge here:

What’s New on Binge?

Binge updates with new content consistently. They tend to add new shows every week, and you can track what’s coming out on their website.

Best Binge Alternatives

Binge is a great way to stream movies and TV in Australia, but it’s not your only option. Choosing the right streaming service depends heavily on taste, so here are some alternatives you can consider:

  • Stan – The other big Australian original. Stan is a homegrown favourite with a fantastic selection of movies and TV. They’re probably the closest rival to Binge, but we know lots of people who’ve got both.
  • HBO Max – HBO used to have a licensing deal with Binge, but this ended when they launched the HBO Max app in Australia. If you’re an existing Binge customer and want to know where House Of The Dragon has gone, HBO Max is the answer.
  • Apple TV+ – Some of the most critically acclaimed TV shows can be found on the Apple TV+ service. They don’t have as big a catalogue as Binge, but the films and shows they have are consistently good.

These apps have varying prices, but they’re all worth exploring. To compare the cost of different streaming services, click here.

Binge FAQs

How Does Binge Differ From Foxtel Now?

Binge and Foxtel Now are closely related and share a lot of content. The key difference is that Binge is a classic streaming platform, while Foxtel Now operates more like a Cable TV subscription. At the basic level, a Binge subscription costs more than a Foxtel Now one, but you have to buy extra channel packs to unlock everything on Foxtel Now.

What Devices Is Binge Compatible With?

Binge works on most modern devices. You can download the Binge app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Hubbl, PS4 & PS5, selected 3rd and 4th Generation Xbox consoles, Samsung smart TVs, Hisense LG smart TVs, Android TV, Chromecast, and access it via desktop computers.

Can You Get Children’s TV on Binge?

Yes, Binge has a dedicated children’s section full of family-friendly shows for the kids to enjoy. You can also access children’s television channels like CBeebies.

Does Binge Have Ads?

Yes, but only on the Basic plan. The Standard and Premium plans don’t include ads, and they’re not on the kids’ content either.

Does Binge Have Cancellation Fees?

No, this is a misunderstanding. The Apple TV app is free, so the Apple TV+ subscription fee is the only one you’ll have to pay. There is no double subscribing.

Can You Get Binge on PS4 and PS5?

Yes, Binge has recently expanded its list of supported devices with the addition of gaming consoles, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox (Series X, Series S, One S and One X).
