Amazon Prime Day

Much to the dissatisfaction of many, the traditional Amazon Prime Day was cancelled back in July due to the coronavirus pandemic. The good news is that Amazon has now decided they will go ahead with the 2-day deals extravaganza, exclusive to Amazon Prime customers, in mid-October.

During this 48 hour period, Prime customers can get cut-price deals on everything from Amazon Firesticks to 4K TVs. Last year, a whopping 340,000 Aussies visited Amazon per day during the event, making over 40,000 purchases. Here we’re going to give you everything you need to know so that you don’t miss out.

The first-ever Amazon Prime Day was held back in July 2015, giving Amazon customers top deals as part of the company’s 20th birthday celebrations. The success was so great that Amazon decided to do one every year, becoming the US giant’s mid-year version of Black Friday.

Amazon Prime Day deals include major discounts on a huge range of products, from Echo Dot to Nike sneakers. It has become an unmissable event for dedicated Amazon customers and takes place worldwide, from the USA and UK to Australia and Singapore.

Although it was initially thought that Amazon Prime Day had been cancelled for 2020, the powers that be decided that it would only be postponed. The date earmarked for this year’s event is between October 13th and October 20th, although no official confirmation has been made.

The first Amazon Prime Day was available in only nine countries (U.S., UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria). Amazon Prime Day has since gone global. Last year, Prime Day deals were available in 18 countries with the addition of the likes of Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, Austria, France, China, Belgium, and of course, Australia.

In 2017, Amazon also gave customers the chance to take advantage of deals for longer. The ‘day’ became plural, with prices slashed for a full 48 hours, and even some countries, like Australia, profiting for a total of 65 hours! .

Amazon Prime Day has become closely associated with hardware deals. The Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, and Kindle Paperwhite see major price cuts and in turn, tend to be the biggest sellers. If you want to know exactly what the best deals will be, you can check out our suggestions below as and when they become available.

For the past couple of editions of Amazon Prime Day, there has been a music concert with some of the world’s biggest acts taking part. Artists likes of Ariana Grande, Alessia Cara, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Becky G, and SZA have all graced the stage of the past two years.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is highly unlikely that a concert in front of a live audience will take place. However, don’t put it past Amazon to get a couple of live streams going to keep their dedicated music fans singing and dancing!
