Telstra Mobile

The original Aussie telco has become one of the country’s best mobile phone providers in recent years. Telstra Mobile offers loads of different options – we’ve got eight different mobile plans on our compare site alone – some of which are contracted and some of which are month-to-month deals. All plans come with Unlimited Telstra Air Wi-Fi data, as well as unlimited calls and texts to Australian standard numbers. The higher-end plans come with unlimited international talk and text to 15 different countries, so you’ll be able to stay in touch with your loved ones wherever they are.

For sports lovers, all Telstra mobile plans come with access to the AFL, AFLW, NRL and Netball live apps – fast and data-free. So if you want to watch your AFL, rugby league or netball, you can do it in great quality without eating into your data limits. The higher-end packages come with a free Foxtel Now starter pack, giving you access to one of Australia’s best TV streaming services. Depending on the plan – and the length of the contract – it’ll also come with a free and data-free Apple Music subscription.

As what can probably be expected, Telstra plans aren’t the cheapest on the market. Their cheapest plan is more than double some of the other providers’ low-cost options, although Telstra gives you more bang for your buck than pretty much any provider out there. You’ve also got the security of being connected to Australia’s biggest and best mobile network.

Amaysim Mobile

amaysim was the first Aussie provider to really recognise the wants and needs of the modern customer – starting with getting rid of long contracts and offering month-to-month deals. Now, almost two decades since they were founded, they’ve kept their customer-focused approach intact. And while they’ve grown far more popular in recent years, they haven’t let it gone to their heads – their deals are still perfectly suited to modern customer needs.

amaysim is probably the best provider in Australia for people who actually use their phone as a phone. They’ve got great national calling deals – all of their deals have unlimited domestic calls – while they’re Australia’s leading provider for international calls. Several of their deals have free and unlimited international calls to select countries. And although they’re perfect for people who use their phone as a phone, they’ve also got great data deals. Their data-only plans have some of the biggest capacities offered anywhere on Australian soil.  

Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile has been around for just a tick under 20 years, having remade themselves from a prepaid provider focusing on younger people to a fully-fledged telco with something for pretty much everyone. In 2018, they won the Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers Award. They’ve gotten rid of lock-in contracts, instead offering month-to-month pre-paid deals.

Their focus is still on budget deals on prepaid SIMs, but they’ve managed to significantly improve prepaid to suit modern users. Their prepaid plans last for 28 days, when you’ll get a chance to refresh them for another 28-day period. They’ve got unlimited national calls and texts, with some international destinations included. Every Boost user gets free – and data-free – access to Apple Music streaming. For most of the larger plans the data allowance rolls over to the next month, so you won’t waste any of the data that you paid for.

Moose Mobile

Moose Mobile is an Aussie success story. Starting out in Brisbane as a seller of refurbished second-hand iPhones, they’ve now built themselves up into one of the country’s better mobile providers. We think they’ve got Australia’s best value data plans, but we aren’t the only one to rate them well. Moose Mobile won the Money Magazine, Whistleout, Finder and WhatPhone Awards in 2018 due to their competitive plans and satisfied customers.

Moose Mobile is known for their simplicity. Their plans are SIM-only, with the cost changing mainly on the basis of your data limit. They’re also great for parents and the budget conscious – they’ve got an excellent app which lets you keep track of your usage, while they also boast terrific parental control software. All plans come with unlimited calls and texts, and they offer contracted and non-contracted plans at all data levels.
