Netflix Halts 30-Day Free Trial

The streaming landscape in Australia has seen noteworthy changes recently with more streaming video on demand being launched. Giving customers more options to choose from, these services strive to be accessible in terms of pricing, content, and a free trial option. This time, however, Netflix decided to opt out.

Free trials are almost customary incentives to lure prospective customers in. Trying a service for free, even if it’s for a limited period of time, is effective. It’s part of the whole process when subscribers make an informed decision about a particular service. This year, though, Netflix decides to head for another direction, scrapping the 30-day free trial offer to scout for other marketing opportunities.

With the removal of the 30-day free trial, new customers in Australia will no longer enjoy the month-long free streaming of TV and movies upon signup. Netflix first offered the free trial since its Australia launch in 2015. However, it seems that the free trial is being discontinued to give way to other offers.

For instance, the streaming giant offered free streaming samples of the teen romance film To All The Boys I Loved Before to non-subscribers in the US to concur with the sequel’s premiere. It’s still unknown whether Netflix Australia will adopt a similar strategy.

It is possible that Netflix is trying a different kind of sign-up incentive for new users. It’s still unclear of what it could be. So far, Netflix has been tight-lipped about this change. Even the removal of the 30-day free trial wasn’t officially announced, just that it occurred in early February. Nonetheless, this decision by the company is not entirely unheard of. The 30-day free trial offers have been removed from Netflix in Mexico, the UK, and France.

In Australia, Netflix subscription starts at $9.99/month for the Basic plan. For HD viewing and to watch on two screens simultaneously, the Standard plan is priced at $13.99/month. The top-tier Premium plan at $19.99/month, meanwhile, allows you to watch in Ultra HD and watch on four screens at once. There is no lock-in contract so you can cancel anytime.

It’s always convenient to bundle services and pay a single bill. If you’re a Telstra customer, you can add Netflix to your account so you’ll only have to settle for one bill. Simply choose your desired plan, click on the link that’ll be sent to you, and that’s it. Enjoy Netflix’s rich content offerings that include drama, comedy, documentaries, blockbuster movies, and many more.
