Now in its sixth season it’s showing no signs of slowing down, with the American Film Institute naming every single season to-date one of the top ten television seasons of the year.
But what would happen if the characters in the show were suddenly forced to compete in a season of Survivor, with Jeff Probst watching their every move and CBS documenting their battle for $1 million? Who would take home the prize, and who’d be sent packing?
Phil and Claire Dunphy
Being extremely overprotective of her children, we think Claire would be a nightmare at Tribal Council and especially so if anybody was rude to her kids. The last Blood versus Water season of Survivor saw mother and daughter alliance Baylor and Missy engage in a war of words with some of their fellow contenders who attacked their personality – Claire could absolutely fit into the mould of Missy. Couple that with her overbearing nature and need to ensure everything is perfect and she’d surely get on everybody’s nerves.
Phil on the other hand would likely be doing nothing but enjoy his time on the island. Enjoying the getaway and viewing it as a vacation, he’d for certain crack jokes at the expense of other contestants and talk himself off the island. We can’t see either of these two walking away with the crown, but we know for certain they’d make some incredible viewing.
Haley, Alex and Luke Dunphy
Haley would walk, let’s be honest with ourselves. The lack of technology on the show would mean she’d send herself back home, back to the world of the internet and cute boys her own age.
Alex is smart but that could work against her. She’s eager to show off her intelligence and prove she’s superior to those around her, and so she’d quickly become a target. Despite this she could if she put her mind to it, come up with a plan to stump her rivals.
Luke? Let’s not go there. The poor boy’s not cut out for a show like Survivor.
Cameron Tucker, Mitchell Pritchett and Lily Tucker-Pritchett
We think Lily could certainly run away with this one. Cameron and Mitchell’s little bickering sessions would distract from their daughter coming up with a master plan to take the title of Sole Survivor. If we had to put money on it, Lily would be the one we’d back.
Jay Pritchett and Gloria Delgado-Pritchett
Quiet and reserved, Jay could be the dark horse of the competition who silently gets on with things whilst the rest of the contenders rip one another apart. He wouldn’t be the best at physical challenges and so he may not be seen as a threat, which could see him slowly but surely gain momentum before storming at around the final six to the final Tribal Council.
His wife Gloria on the other hand is one that could annoy from the off-set. Her need for glamour and sophistication paired with her screeching and high-pitched tone could rub people up the wrong way. That being said, annoying people are at times taken to the final three, so she could make it, but for all the wrong reasons. Fellow contestants should just hope that there’s no karaoke machine on the island.
Manny again is another smart one, but he can also be incredibly infuriating. Just how many anecdotes about things nobody else cares about would it take for his name to be written down enough times on the voting parchment for him to be sent home? We’re betting not many. Manny would perhaps fare better on a quiz show, where his useless slices of knowledge may in fact come in handy.
For pure comedic value we’d actually pay to see Pepper on Survivor. So long as he could bring his dog Beyoncé of course.
Modern Family airs weeknights at 7:00 pm on Foxtel. Survivor returns for its 30th season later this year on Channel Nine.
